The HEARTS project branch at CERN is looking for a motivated physicist/engineer to take part in the development of a space radiation effects laboratory using heavy ion beams for irradiating electronic components before they are used on board spacecraft.
For two weeks in November, 10 companies and institutions were provided access to CERN’s new high-energy heavy ion irradiation facility to test electronics for use in space, with positive initial feedback from the users.
Slovenian-based company Cosylab will bring its expertise to improve the experience of future users of HEARTS facilities.
In early February, the first annual meeting of the HEARTS project laid the foundations for European strategic autonomy in high-energy heavy ion testing for space applications.
In order to better compare their results, CERN and GSI have met in April to discuss and align their approach to high-energy heavy ion beam dosimetry.
The EU-funded project HEARTS aims at providing access to high-energy heavy ion radiation testing facilities for space exploitation and space exploration.
The EU HORIZON funded HEARTS project has been officially started on 20 January 2023 with a Kick-off Meeting at CERN, Switzerland.
The HEARTS proposal has been accepted for implementation by EU HORIZON programme.
