Objectives
The GCR/SPE simulator is a unique European infrastructure that will be able to simulate the full GCR spectrum in terms of LET and, partially, in charge composition. In addition, we will be able to simulate intense SPE events of different spectra. While the construction of the device has been funded by ESA, the testing with shielding material and the TRL enhancement will be performed in the HEARTS project. The device can also be used for the simulation of SPE, which is less complex than the GCR simulator, but still very relevant for a broad variety of space applications.
Tasks
- Task 6.1: Standardized setup for the GCR/SPE simulation experiments (GSI, TAS, month 1-24)
- Task 6.2: Quantitative measurement of shielding effectiveness (GSI, TAS, month 12-36)
- Task 6.3: Radiobiological characterization (GSI, month 24-48)
